What about Mad Cow Disease?
M.C.D. is caused by feeding animals to animals which is illegal in the U.S.A. Grass-fed beef has no chance of M.C.D. because we don't feed any feedstuffs.
What about E-Coli?
E-Coli is present in all cattle but, because of the low acid diet of Grass-fed, the e-coli doesn't do well. Grain feeding raises the acid content in the cattle so that the e-coli does better. But, be safe, cook the hamburger well.
You don't feed or give the cattle anti-biotics but what if an animal is so sick that anti-biotics are the only thing to save it's life?
We then do give the animal anti-biotics and then the animal is removed from the grass-fed program and put into a regular feedlot.
Do you feed hay?
Hay is fed on two occasions. One, when the calves are acclimated in a pen or that time of the year when there isn't enough green pasture. On both occasions, we use green alfalfa which is as close to natural pasture as we can get.
Why is the marbling creamy colored?
Grass-fed beef is real high in vitamin A (Beta/Carotine) and gives the marbling a creamy color. Feed-lot cattle have no vitamin A so the fat is white.
Does Grass-fed beef taste different from corn-fed?
Yes -- These animals are raised on an individual basis, not mass produced like a feed-lot. Because they are raised on natural pasture, they have a more beef taste. The taste will vary with the time of year and also the different types of pasture.
